In this episode, we hear from Dr. Steven Gitelis, who received an OREF Research Grant in 1986, which he used to develop a tumor model system for testing antitumor agents on chondrosarcoma cells.

Dr. Gitelis began his career at Rush University in 1980 with a focus on orthopaedic oncology. He is now director of musculoskeletal oncology at Rush Cancer Center, and an endowed professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Rush Medical College. He is an expert in oncology and limb reconstruction and serves as the director of the Rush Center for Limb Preservation and the medical director of the Tissue Bank of Illinois Gift of Hope. He is Chairman of the 20th Century Orthopaedic Association and past president of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and the Illinois Orthopaedic Society..
